TFH #24: There’s Always A Discount

Have you ever shopped on Lazada, booked a gojek, or ordered foodpanda without using a voucher?

If so, you’ve unfortunately missed out on a chance to save money.

Because it turns out that there’s always a discount available for these merchants -and many others as well – with ShopBack vouchers.

ShopBack Vouchers

For the uninformed, ShopBack is a cashback reward program that awards cashback for shopping with partnered merchants.

They also sell vouchers for various merchants, which will earn you cashback when you purchase them.

And that’s the idea of how you get to save with these merchants – if there’s no better promotion or voucher available, simply buying a voucher and earning cashback via ShopBack is better than nothing.

You can access the list of vouchers available on ShopBack by opening the mobile app, scrolling down to ‘Top Voucher deals”, and clicking on “See all”.

I will caveat this by saying that the cashback you get to earn from voucher purchases is usually minimal, at 5% or less.

But there are ways to earn more cashback than usual.

The first is to look out for flash sale cashback promotions.

This usually happens during popular e-commerce sale periods like 10/10 and 11/11.

Cashback can go as high as 50% during these promotions but tend to be limited to only $5 or $10 vouchers.

The second way is to look for upsized cashback promotions.

This may be applicable to merchants whose vouchers are being promoted by ShopBack, or specific voucher denominations for selected merchants.

You can identify which voucher denominations are valid for upsized cashback with an up arrow symbol.

For example, the $5, $8, and $10 TADA vouchers are eligible for upsized cashback in the screenshot below.

The final way is to purchase vouchers on days when there is upsized cashback for specific payment methods.

For example, on Thursdays, there is upsized cashback for certain vouchers if you pay with a DBS/POSB card, as shown below.

There are other days that run similar promotions for other bank cards as well.

Here is the list as far as I’m aware:

  • Sunday – Standard Chartered
  • Monday – UOB
  • Wednesday – GrabPay wallet
  • Thursday – DBS/POSB

These bank promotions do not apply to all merchants, so make sure you see the promotion as shown in the screenshot above.

The bonus cashback earned via this promotion will be tabulated separately from the base cashback that you’d earn by purchasing the voucher normally.

There are a number of different merchants that sell vouchers on ShopBack.

So the next time you pay for something without any promotions or vouchers, be sure to check ShopBack to see if you can save with their vouchers.

Referral Promotion

If you don’t already use ShopBack, there’s a referral promotion going on where you can earn $5 cashback.

Here’s how:

  1. Sign up for a ShopBack account via this link or with this referral code “flshiB
  2. Add your cashback withdrawal details to your account (bank account or PayLah!)
  3. Spend $20 and wait for your cashback to be confirmed
  4. Earn your $5 reward

Note that you’ll need to have a minimum of $10 confirmed cashback before you can withdraw it.
